Delight in God’s Promises
If we are to delight in the Lord, we’ve got to know who He is. And what better way to know Him than by studying His promises?
There are approximately 8810 promises in the Bible and each tell of the nature of our God- who He is.
He never changes.
He is truth.
What He says He will do.
He never changes.
I could go on and on, but the firm foundation of our Lord is established through His promises and the fact that what He has promised to do, He will do. We delight in the Lord when we hold on to these promises, placing our delight and trust in the words He has spoken.
How do we make this real and foundational in our family? Here are some ideas to study the promises of God at home.
Head to Heart- Memorize some of God’s promises as a family- What I teach in Kids First is that we say verses over and over to get them in our head with the intention that they start to be revealed in our hearts. When we go through life, we recall His promises and trust in His word, knowing He is faithful to do what He promised.
Write on Your Doorpost- place reminders of His promises in a prominent place- The Bible says in Deuteronomy to write the scriptures on our doorposts, which essentially means put them in a place where you are going to see them ALL of the time. Put post-its on the mirror. Make a magnet on the refrigerator. Paint on a canvas and hang in your room. Or quite literally hang a promise that you are holding on to on your door.
Cling to God’s Promises- Make God’s promises real to your children. Have your child choose a promise and create art with it. Have them meditate on it and think about what it means. Talk about situations where this promise can encourage and empower you to trust in God.
